ABSTRACT

Objective. To compare the effectiveness of ibuprofeno, metamizol, nimesulide and paracetamol for fever control in children.
Material and methods. One hundred nineteen children with fever admitted to the urgencies service of the hospital were study. All of them were divided randomly in four groups of treatment. Primary outcome was maximal change in temperature in the 2-hour study period, after initial treatment.
Results. One hundred nineteen patients were included in the study. The mean age of the children was 27 ± 14 months and the mean temperature at entrance to the urgencies service was 38.6 ± 0.5 °C. All the treatments were able to decrease significantly the fever and there was not an statistically significant difference in the antipyretic effects seen in the four groups of treatment.
Conclusions. The fever decreased in the four groups of children receiving the antipyretics studied, thus, anyone of the present drugs could be recommended for the fever in children treated in the hospital urgencies services.
