ABSTRACT

The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become the method of choice in the evaluation of sensorineural hearing loss in adolescents and adults. It allows the evaluation of congenital alterations like dysplasia of the internal ear and the labyrinth, as well as tumors of the cerebellopontine angle (for example, the intralabyrinthine schwannoma), it is also possible to evaluate the extension of the tumors, presence of metastatic intracranial disease and help in the presurgical planning. The high resolution slices let detect millimetric injuries. We present a case of intralabyrinthine schwannoma, with a brief discussion of the anatomical aspects, classic findings in MRI and the main differentials diagnoses.
