ABSTRACT
Antecedents: The use of high-heeled shoe wear is common in the female population and produces alterations in the sagittal plane alignment of the lower limbs and trunk that are not completely defined.
Objective: of this study is to find if the fatigue caused by prolonged use of high-heeled shoe wear causes a variation in pelvic tilt in the sagittal plane.
Methods: The pelvic tilt of a group of 11 healthy women was measured with a non invasive measurement system in standing position. Measurements were taken barefooted, wearing shoes with a heel of 6.7 ± 1.0 cm, after at least 2.5 hours of standing and walking on the shoes and after putting out the shoes.
Results: Putting in the high heeled shoes caused a decrease in pelvis tilt of 1° ± 1.9° (p = 0.097). After the standing and walking period there was an additional decrease of 2.1° ± 2.9° (significant, p = 0.037). Putting out the shoes made pelvic tilt to revert to the original levels.
Conclusion: Continued use of high heeled shoes causes a decrease of pelvic tilt in the sagittal plane. This effect disappears when the shoes are taken out.
