Abdominal trauma management in two rural hospitals in San Luis Potosí

ABSTRACT

The abdominal trauma (AT) it is 5.46% in all surgery procedure in a city hospital, with 13% mortality. The most frequent lesion was reported in hepatic, gut, and spleen visceral. Methods: An observational study was carried out at two Rural Hospitals (HR), from 2002 to 2006 on patients who underwent exploratory laparotomy for abdominal trauma, with variables on age, surgical procedure, mortality and frequent location. Results: Of the 3,956 patients who were operated, 57 were from AT (1.5%). Lesions were due to blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) in 56%, their age average of 35.9 years. All patients were surgical treated, the more common procedure was gut surgical reconstruction (36%), mortality was of 12%. Conclusion: AT in rural place it is less cases at city hospital, but it is more frequent BAT, but by our distance and problems in communications roads. The immediately surgical solutions it is the need on RH form the AT.
