ABSTRACT

The objetive of this study was to compare the inflamatory reaction induced by Taenia solium metacestodes in muscular and nervous tissues. Muscles and brains of 21 experimentally infected pigs were processed for histological studies. Twenty pigs were euthanized 70 days-, and one pig 210 days after the infection. The results show a statistically significant (p = 3.8 E-0.8) difference between the inflammatory reaction and the degree of larval destruction produced by the metacestodes in muscles and nervous tissue. The lesions in muscles were found to be more pronounced.
