Subcutaneous edema in lower parts of the body in heifers was clinically identified in a dairy farm in Ixtlahuaca in the State of Mexico, Mexico. Necropsy findings were: Subcutaneous edema in abdominal and thoraxic regions, as well as hydrothorax and ascitis. Liver and kidney presented hard consistency and pale color. The right cardiac muscle wall was flacid, thin and dilated. At histological level, albuminose degeneration and blood congestion were observed in the kidney. Thickening of arteries wall at the rumen wall with the presence of fibrous connective tissue was an outstanding finding. Hepatic centrolobulillar fibrous plus billiary ducts proliferation were identified. Copper blood concentration (850 ng/g) and liver tissue (dry weight bases) were 185 mg/g. These levels correspond to healthy heifers. Selenium concentration in liver tissue (dry weight bases) grass, soil and blood was not higher than 64 ng/g. Anatomical and histological tissue changes suggest Brisket's disease. Bovine tissues, soil and grass Se concentrations in this study indicate deficiency of Se.REFERENCES
