ABSTRACT

Nowadays a new term “silent inflammation” is used and makes us consider other parameters to evaluate the general condition of the patients and define preclinical abnormal states. Patients who will undergo elective surgery are required to have lab tests and cardiovascular evaluation. However, in spite of normal results, some patients present unexplainable complications. Silent inflammation is the damage that body tissues suffer over the years without showing symptoms. This condition is due to hormonal derangement of insulin as well as eicosanoids. For its diagnosis we must use clinical and lab data, the most valuable being AA/EPA Range, whose normal value should be 1.5. To achieve health levels for our patients’ good health, they participate in the zone preoperative program which consists of four points: balanced nutrition, specific Omega 3 administration, balanced exercise, and stress control. As a result, insulin as well as eicosanoids are controlled with the resulting reversion of silent inflammation and a decrease in surgical risk.
