ABSTRACT
Commonly the restorative dentist needs to place a fixed prosthesis in the anterior sector of the mouth, for that reason, aesthetics as well as function of the prosthesis have to be taken into account. Aesthetics responsibility is not only limited to the shape, size and color of the teeth, but it is also important to preserve or recover the gum-tooth harmony. Placing a fixed prosthesis with an ovoid pontic in the front sector of the mouth zone will allow to obtain and keep an acceptable gum-pontic relationship; taking into account the morphology and gum contour, as well as the natural emergence of the tooth. Any tooth area will have, as a consequence, a collapse or atrophy of the alveolus due to the absence of the tooth. Which results in a series of difficulties in the prosthetic treatment to accomplish a pontic that appears to emerge from an alveolus, moreover, the gum-tooth harmony seem to be affected. The objective of this work is to provide a guide that will help in situations in which it is required to place an aesthetic pontic. Besides, it gathers some alternative of previous treatment to perform; in crests with some degree of atrophy, as it would be the need of grafts, flap technique, etc.
