ABSTRACT

A clinical case of a term newborn is described; the neonate was product of the fourth gestation, he was obtained by a cesarean section with meconium stained amniotic fluid without respiratory distress. He presented a transverse colon perforation in the first forty eight hours of life.
The diagnosis of colon perforation in the neonatal period can be made if one suspect the possibility of its presence. The clinical characteristics, surgical management, and outcome of the term neonate with necrotizing enterocolitis are different than those of the premature infant.
