ABSTRACT
Objective. The objective was determinate the perinatal maternal complications and the neonatal morbidity of the cesarean versus vaginal delivery.
Material and methods. All the deliveries in five months, are divided in 3 groups: group A newborns obtained by programmed cesarean section, group B newborns obtained by cesarean section with labor and group C newborns obtained with vaginal delivery without previous cesarean section. We are analized perinatal maternal variables, births data, neonatal morbidity, diagnostic test and therapeutic interventions.
Results. There were 1,722 deliveries, the 67.4% (group A) delivery by programmed cesarean 19% by cesarean section with labor (group B) and 13.6% by vaginal delivery (group C). We found more cases with meconium amniotic fluid in the groups B and C compared with group A (p ‹ .001), in the group B there were more fetal suffering (p ‹ .001), related to the gestational age all the groups born at term, the group A had a week less tham the others group (p ‹ .001).
In the general neonatal morbidity did’nt find differences only the meconium aspiration and comprobated sepsis in the group B (p ‹ .001), there were more prematures in the group A than the others groups.
Conclusion. The frequeny of elective cesarean is elevated; more in the cases without previous labor; the frequency of prematurity is very high.
