ABSTRACT

A lot of studies about newborn with neonatal asphyxia show this patients suffer partial or global myocardial malfunction.
The aim of this study is to know the frequence of transient myocardial ischemia (TMI) in patients with middle or severe asphyxia, its clinical image and laboratory and radiology changes.
This is a prospective and longitudinal study. We included newborn with middle and severe asphyxia.
Analysis to the patients included CPK-MB seric levels, X-ray and electrocardiogram.
The study included 42 patients, 17 to have TMI with electrocardiographic changes myocardial enzymes and X-ray and heart rate changes. Of 17 patients with TMI-11 suffer severe asphyxia and 6 middle asphyxia.
In our study has a low frequency of TMI in newborn with middle and severe asphyxia.
We did not found association between asphyxia degree and clinical outcome of TMI.
