ABSTRACT

The entry of the medical profession into the area of schools began after the Pedagogic Hygienic Congress held in Mexico City in 1882. This meeting was important because it showed the concern of the state and of the society for child health. Moreover because all propositions of this reunion were carried out, though not immediately. School medical inspection at the end of the 19th century was not an isolated occurrence, it coincided with sanitary regulation of private and publish spaces and with an international concern to prevent child illness. The present historical study included revision of primary sources: medical journals of the period and the handwritten report of the Congress.
