ABSTRACT

Objective: To identify the prevalence of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) in sacrum fractured patients. Method: A prospective, transversal study was realized at the Hospital de Traumatología de la UMAE «Dr. Victorio de la Fuente Narváez» Distrito Federal, IMSS, from January 1st to December 31st 2003. We had 29 male inpatients diagnosed with sacral fracture, older than 18 years, no history of ED and without neurological or urogenital pathology; all of them signed the informed consent form. The fractures were classificated as Denis and registrated the concomitant diseases. Then we applied the IIEF-5 (International Index of Erectile Function) for diagnosis of ED and classified according to Rosen (3-12 months after fracture). The values of p ≤ 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: From 95 pelvic fractured patients (29 with sacrum fracture), 17 fulfill the selection criteria (9 fractures type I, 8 type II). Type of fracture and concomitant diseases had values of p › 0.05. We had three cases of ED, all in type II fractures. Two of them were classificated as mild ED and one as severe. Conclusion: The prevalence of ED in man with sacrum fracture is 17.6%, regardless of concomitant diseases and age.
