ABSTRACT

Mucormycosis is a mycotic and opportunistic infection, it presents in neutropenic or poorly controlled diabetic patients. Rhinocerebral and pulmonary forms are the most frequent. Hepatic mucormycosis has been rarely reported. We present the case of a 27 year old female with acute myeloid leukemia, after chemotherapy she presented fever and painful hepatomegaly, computed tomographic scan of the abdomen showed two hepatic abscess. Material from the abscess was stained with hematoxylin-eosin and showed multiple hyphal fungal forms consistent with Mucor, the culture confirmed the diagnosis. The patient was treated with amphotericin B coloidal dispersion. This is an uncommon case of mucormycosis.
