ABSTRACT

Objective: Study patients with Duane’s Y syndrome to determine it’s frequency and clinical characteristics and results after surgery.
Material y methods: Retrospective, descriptive, observational and transversal study of clinical files in patients with Duane’s syndrome.
Results: The study included 45 eyes of 34 patients with a mean age of 10 years. Eleven patients were male and 23 female, 26 left eyes and 19 right eyes; 28 eyes had added an horizontal component. 13 cases were mild, 10 moderate and 11 severe. A retro and supra insertion of both lateral rectus was made in 12 patients and retro insertion of both inferior rectus with resection of both superior rectus in 4 patients. Te postoperative results in the first group obtained a P that was statistically significant.
Conclusions: The aim of this study is to adequate classify the patients regarding the clinical features to determine in which types of patients a surgical approach would be needed.
