ABSTRACT

Thoracic damage control surgery, originally was limitated to thoracotomy in shock trauma room; after that, lung thoracotomy was used successfully, but actually, one excellent option is thoracic package. This is the case of a 17 years old male who was received at Mexican Red Cross Trauma center with the precedent of 6 days suffering a stab wound at the right Infraescapular area apparently not complicated. To his arrive, right hemothorax was he presented a coagulated hemothorax, that was drained by thoracotomy, presenting important bleeding in post operative, requiring a new surgical intervention, presenting lethal triade (coagulopathy, hypothermia and acidosis) right hemithorax packaging was placed and patient remained so for three days. At the fourth day patient was unpacked and some days later patient was discharged for good evolution. The goal in this case, is to revise the thoracic packaging as an alternative in some cases to control bleeding in this anatomic area.
