ABSTRACT

Leishmaniasis is an intracellular infection caused by the protozoa Leishmania. L. infantum may cause both cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) and visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in Mediterranean countries.
In HIV-positive patients with VL, cutaneous lesions are sometimes the first sign of visceral involvement. We report the case of a HIV-positive patient, with a lip ulceration as a first symptom of an occult LV.
