Prevalencia de glaucoma neovascular en pacientes diabéticos con indicación para vitrectomía

ABSTRACT

Neovascular glaucoma is one of the most serious complications of diabetic retinopathy, especially in patients who have proliferative diabetic retinopathy. However, there are no reports in the literature about the prevalence of neovascular glaucoma in Mexican diabetic population.
Design and methods: A retrospective study of 130 expedients admitted in the retina service from October 2004 to October 2005.
Results: The prevalence of neovascular glaucoma in diabetic patients in México is 3.8%.
Conclusions: The prevalence of neovascular glaucoma in the diabetic patients in México is 3.8% and in general these patients have uncontrolled diabetes and a difficult to control diabetic retinopathy.
