ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of the endocyclophotocoagulation in the Refractory Glaucoma Treatment. To establish the relation between the number of photocoagulated ciliary process and the diminishing of the intraocular pressure (IOP) percentage. Material and methods: Experimental, prospective study, case series. There were included patients of any gender and age with refractive glaucoma diagnosis. The first day every patient gave all the information needed for a complete ophthalmology clinical story and the visual acuity and the intraocular pressure were measured, as was made weekly for the first month and each month following. Results: 11 patients were studied, 5 women (45%) and 6 men (55%), with a mean age of 36.7 years old. Two patients had the diagnosis of Congenital Glaucoma, 5 of Glaucoma due to Corneal Graft, secondary of retinal surgery in 2 patients, Neovascular Glaucoma in 1 patient and another on the after ocular trauma. The mean following time was 4.5 months. The mean initial IOP with maximum treatment was of 31.09 mmHg and the mean final IOP was of 20.5 mmHg. The mean number of photocoagulated ciliary process was of 27.9. Conclusion: The ciliary process destruction with and endoscope is a safe and effective procedure achieving an IOP reduction.
