ABSTRACT

Introduction: In order to identify alterations in the development of the children, the older conducts of the child are related to chronological age, by means of observation and questions. The primitive reflex and postural reactions are early tools, they allow access to the SNC of the children and allow to identify early abnormalities. Material and methods: Descriptive, longitudinal, comparative study. Thirty patients, 15 belonged to the control group (non-high risk pregnancies) and 15 were the study group, was formed by products of high risk pregnancies. Inclusion criteria children of less than 45 days, both sexes, a minimum weight 2,500 g. Apgar score of at least 8 at 5 minutes. Patients with greater than 45 days, neurological damage, cardiovascular disease, infections, congenital malformations, were excluded. Primitive reflexes and postural reactions were evaluated every 2 months. We determined validity of sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value at 2 and 6 months. Results: Rossolimo reflex sensitivity (67%), specificity reflected primitive and postural reactions (86.6-100%), positive predictive value for Rossolimo reflex, Galant (100%) and reflex grasping to palm and postural reactions (60%), negative predictive value for primitive reflexes and postural reactions (46-52%). Conclusions: The children showed an age of normal integration in the primitive reflexes and the postural reactions did not present abnormalities in the central coordination, until the 6 months of age.
