ABSTRACT

Objective. To study the behavioral patterns in the first year of life of Mexican infants, using the scales CAT/CLAMS.
Methodology. A cohort of 74 healthy infants in the first 4 months of life. All of them were recruited among the mothers which accepted to participate in the research. The developmental assessment of infants was evaluated monthly. For the analysis of the data were calculated the accumulate frequencies of ages of the behaviors evaluated, considering a month before and after, according to the age of the child. The distribution by age in p10, p50 and p90 and differences in regard the age when each infant got the behaviors.
Results. Marked differences appeared in the age of acquisition of the behaviors observed in the infants and the age indicated in the test. The differences appeared from less of a month to almost five in favor of the CAT/CLAMS. The areas with greater difference reported in the motor landmarks and the expressive language. The acquisition sequences appear with some variations in all the areas.
Conclusion. The screening test of the CAT/CLAMS does lot seem to suitably represent the development of the children of the studied population.
