ABSTRACT

To determine prevalence of upheavals of the refraction in 8-10 students years. Crosssectional study, sample of convenience of 806 students (8 to 10 years) of state schoolsof primary education that fulfilled the selection criteria, previous consent of its parents. I am applied to the parents a questionnaire adhoc, that measures sociodemographics variables (direct age, sex, relatives with ocular ortesis, who I diagnose its use, suffering, occupation of the father, socioeconomic level, habitual service medico, institution of health, importance of the ophtalmological revision, that I make it, reason for not making it) clinical (upheavals of the refraction). To the children revision of visual sharpness by doctor enabled by means of the record took place of snellen, in a hall classes with natural illumination. The probable cases were evaluated one week later by an ophtalmologist. I am made univariado and bivaried statistical analysis. Study 806 students, average of age of 9,02 +-.82; proportion of 1 man 90 women, 45,7 % with a direct relative with ocular ortesis, indicated by a physicial in 34.7%, single 18,3 % knew his I diagnose, 44,5 % of the parents are working, 39,7% of low and very low socioeconomic level. The prevalence of upheavals of the refraction was of 18,2 % (147). Single 94 (63%) of the cases were evaluated by the ophthalmologist confirming itself I diagnose in 95 % (90). I diagnose but it frequents was myopia.The record of snellen is efficient to detect cases of ametropia. The found prevalence is similar to the reported one by other authors.
