ABSTRACT

Objective: To describe the demographic characteristics, epidemiological and medical of the injured medullary by gender. Material and methods: They were included 114 men and 35 women (reason 3.2:1), were calculated the probability reasons to estimate the relative prevalence of the differential characteristics by gender. The hypothesis contrast was accomplished with the statistical of chi squared for the nominal variables and T Student for the age (33.1 years in man vs 33.6 years in women, p = 0.84). Results: The clearly differential characteristics by gender were: occupation (professional RP = 2.1 in favor of the female sex); etiology (injury by gousnt shot or white weapon RP = 9.0 for the masculine sex); complete injury more frequent in women (RP = 1.7), injury in the workplace 100% men and in household the women (RP = 2.1), alcohol and violence were the principal contributing factors and their relative prevalence was much greater in men that in women (RP de1.9 and 7.8, respectively). Conclusions: The epidemiological characteristics turned out to be similar to what is reported in the world literature. The differences by gender maybe obey to the changes socioculturales of the Mexican population. Currently the woman greater has purchasing power and in occasions is the principal economic contribution of the family, however exist more worker men than women and they are more exposed to the violence and drink alcohol. The injury by gons shot has been increased in the last reports reflecting of some way the political instability of the country.
