Simulator of abdominal wall for the acquisition of elementary surgery skills

ABSTRACT

Objective: To show a simulator for surgery basic training.
Place: Military Medical School, Mexico.
Methods: Wood table, foamy (different colors), cellophane, nails, gauze cloth, dye (pink, red and blue), water, syringes, silk, a black ink marker and silastic tubes. We stained the gauze with pink dye. Then, put the gauze, the cellophane and the foamy on the table. All was fixed with the nails. We put colored water into the silastic tubes. Then, sealed it with silk and placed between foamy layers.
Results: At first, we can armed the simulator in one hour. It can be used once. It simulates the abdominal wall.
Conclusions: Easy-made and cheap simulator.
