Key words:

Erysiphacus, cataract surgery.

ABSTRACT

Cataract surgery may be one that has had various changes throughout history. It began as a modern surgery with Daviel’s contributions, a French XVIII century ophthalmologist who served French king Louis XV as one of his chamber doctors. One of the techniques more used until about 40 years ago was the vacuum extraction with erysiphacus. Nowadays very few people are aware of the existence of this instrument and technique commonly used in cataract surgery some time ago, the same way phacoemulsification instruments are used nowadays.
