ABSTRACT

Health of German leader Adolf Hitler has been the subject of numerous investigations. It has been said that he suffered from symptoms of tertiary syphilis but most of historians agree nowadays that they actually were part of advanced Parkinson’s disease. Besides this, at the end of 1943, many of his colleagues commented about a «chronic ocular inflammation» of unknown origin that was treated with topical cocaine drops (common treatment in those days). This kind of treatment might have been responsible for most of his rage episodes and determinant in his erratic behavior in taking decisive resolutions towards the end of the war, at the expense of more than 50 million human lifes and that changed the course of history.
