Depression in pregnant adolescents attended in a perinatal hospital

ABSTRACT
Aim. To identify the frequency of depression in pregnant adolescent girls and the associated factors.Materials and methods. The Zung questionnaire for depression was applied to 337 pregnant adolescents.
Results. In 98.2% of them some degree of depression was found. 4.7% had been abortions previously and 10% mentioned more than one sexual couple. In 64% the depression was low and 18.1% undergo mentioned violence with their couple, an the depression was more frequent in the 17 years adolescent group.
Conclusions. The frequency of depression in pregnant adolescents is high. The more severe depression was in the first born girls with many members in the family and in those who undergo violence.
