ABSTRACT

Purpose: To know if there is a correlation between retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) measurements using optical coherence tomography (OCT) and functional capacity of retinal fibers, measured by visual field (VF)
Methods: 52 patients (104 eyes) with RNFL OCT and VF white–white 30-2 were selected. We proceeded to make a t probe of two samples supposing similar variances using superior hemi-retina with inferior hemi-retina (µm), and inferior hemi-field with superior hemi-field (dB). Once we get media of each hemi-retina and hemi-field and p of each retina and visual field, we proceed to found the correlation between them.
Conclusions: When significant difference of thickness exists in hemi-retina, there is a complete correlation with the corresponded hemi-field. We can suppose that asymmetry of thickness of hemi-retina has more sensibility to detect localized damage by glaucoma.
