ABSTRACT
Objective. To know the frequency of the malignant abdominal tumours identified in the children attended in the hospital for abdominal masses.Material and methods. It is a retrospective study in 36 files of children that come to the hospital for abdominal masses from January 1 to December 31 of 1991. The study variables were: age, sex and reason for consultation; data related to the clinical an laboratory studies were obtained.
Results. The malignant intraabdominal masses were in 20/36 (0.55), in the other ones 16/36 (0.44) these masses were of retroperitoneal origin. Among the malignant tumors, the linfoma non Hodgkin was found in 11/36 (0.30) children, while the retroperitoneal ones the Wilms' tumor was found in 11/36 (0.30). The main reason of consultation was abdominal mass and pain. In the cases of retroperitoneal tumors the fosse was occupied in 9/11 (0.81) children.
Conclusions. This report coincide with national ones that the abdominal mass and pain are usually seeing in children with abdominal tumors and that the more frequent intraabdominal tumor is the lymphoma non Hodgkin and in the retroperitoneal ones, the Wilms' tumor instead of neuroblastoma.
