ABSTRACT
Objective. To know the frequency of urinary infections in children and the antibiotics susceptibility of bacterium etiologically implicated.
Material and methods. Six hundred and three children attended in an outpatient clinic in a second level Hospital were studied regard to urinary infection. A sample of urine was taken for bacteriological study and the susceptibility to antibiotics.
Results. In 212 (35%) children the diagnosis of urinary infection was positive. The samples of urine of 144 (66%) had
Escherichia coli, the second place was for Proteus sp with 36 (17%). The bacterial resistance higher than 50% was found for amoxillin, cotrimoxazol y cefalotine.
Conclusions. As an other reports the
Escherichia coli was more frequently associated to the urinary infection in children, so the use of second generation cephalosporines, aminoglycosides or fluroquinones.
