Frequency of appendicoliths in children with appendicitis

ABSTRACT

Objective. To study the association of appendicoliths in children with appendicitis in regard to the clinic feature of the disease, days of evolution, radiographic and laboratory findings, and complications.
Subjects and methods. It is a comparative and retrospective study in 198 children with 2 to 15 years old, they were divided in two groups of 99 children. Group A with appendicoliths and group B without it.
Results. The significative differences in favor of group A were: nauseas, vomiting, intestinal ileum in X ray, lymphopenia, complicated appendicitis and more nosocomial days. Group B had more cases of nodular hyperplasic.
Conclusion. The appendicoliths are associated with complicated appendicitis and could be to play an important roll in this disease.
