ABSTRACT

Objective. To know the frequency of ovarian tumors in children treated in ower hospital. Material and methods. 47 clinical files of patients treated in the pediatrics area and in the oncology ward, from 1998 to 2004, were reviewed. In all of them the diagnosis of ovary neoplasia was done. Information was obtained about its age, hystopathological diagnosis, clinical features and evolution.
Results. The mean age of them was 15 years. There were 31 (66%) benign cases of mature teratoma (54%) and cystadenoma (39%). The cases of malignant neoplasias were 16 (34%) cases: 9 (56%) of them of dysgerminoma and 6 (37%) of germinal cells tumours.
Conclusions. The highest frequency seen belonged to the germinal cell tumors, particularly in adolescents.
