Duodenogastric reflux in children: a serial case

ABSTRACT
Aim. To describe endoscopic, histologic and clinic findings in children with DGR.
Material and methods. Descriptive study in a serial case of children with DGR viewed by endoscopy underwent esophageal and gastric biopsies. Participants took a symptom questionnaire at the end of the study.
Results. Forty two (10.6%) children had DGR but 35 had also esophageal varices or coagulopathy that made it impossible to take biopsies. Seven patients were included in the study. All of them had abdominal and some of these had nausea, dysphagia, vomiting, and other symptoms. By the endoscopic study in anyone the esophagus show some abnormality but in the gastric mucous was reported: hyperemia of mucosa, hemorrhagic points, and mucosa edema. Histologic findings in the esophagus were: papillomatosis, inflammatory infiltrate and congestion. In the stomach were paucity of inflammatory cells, foveolar hyperplasia, congestion of mucosa but also increase of inflammatory cells. Three patients had
Helicobacter pylori infection.
