ABSTRACT

Background: Since 1936, we know that placing omentum on the heart, we can revascularize to the myocardium. Material and methods: Previous trans-sternal thoracotomy, we performed an omental transplantation on the anterior surface of the ventricles of the heart in 4 adult dogs. Results: Between 6 to 12 weeks of the transplants, surgical and histological findings demonstrated the following: 1) multiple vascular anastomoses between the omentum and the myocardial vessels; 2) omental penetrating vessels into the underlying myocardium; 3) the stenosis of the interventricular branche from the left from the left coronary artery, it not caused changes in the cardiac rhythm, and 4) the ligature of the same arterial branch, it broke only momentary cardiac arrhythmia. Conclusions: These results confirm the efficacy of the omentum to revascularize to the myocardium and our technique, is another surgical option that should be considered.
