ABSTRACT
The concepts, technique, indications, contraindications, action mechanism. diagnosis criteria for the arthrocentesis procedure are presented.
The development of this alternate treatment as a consequence of the obtained findingds in arthroscopic treatment in patients with limited mandibular movement is described. The objective of arthrocentesis is to mechanically eliminate the superior articular compartment in order to eliminate toxic debris of inflammation and adherences.
Modifications of the conventional arthrocentesis and the indication for treatment are also discussed.
