El VIH/SIDA y la adolescencia

ABSTRACT

Adolescents are specially vulnerable to infection by VIH because they are in a transition period, that is, they are not children anymore but they have not become adults, their social, emotional and psychological development is incomplete and they tend to experience with dangerous forms of behavior, sometimes they do not realize of danger. Because of that, courses and programs on sexual education are a very important advance for integral formation of adolescents, where not only information about pregnancy prevention or diseases of sexual transmission is given, but formation about positive values on a safe and responsible sexual life, too. Although there is not any strategy against AIDS that can be used everywhere; behavior should express epidemiologic characteristics of the infection. However, since almost all the infections by VIH happens in the adolescence, the idea to focus in young people is expressed as a decisive strategy.
