ABSTRACT

The objective of this experiment was to establish if furazolidone utilize the glutathione detoxifying system in the organism. Concentration (µmol/ml of blood) of total glutathione (GT) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) in 0 to 5 week of age control chicks blood was evaluated and compared to GT and GSSG blood levels of chicks that ingested furazolidone as a feed additive. A significant correlation (R2 = -0.709 P‹0.05) (y = 2.15-0.607x and R2=-0.820 P‹0.05) (y=2.17-0.612x) between GT (µmol/ml of blood) and body weight in the control group chicks, and 0 to 5 weeks of age chick, had which ingested furazolidone as a feed additive (55 ppm), was found. A significant difference (P‹0.05) in body weight between the control and the treatment groups was also found in the fifth week (751.3g vs. 884.35g).
