Asthmatic children characteristics in the physiotherapeutic ambulatorial treatment

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Asthma is the most common chronic disease in childhood. It may cause considerable physical, emotional and social restrictions. Material and method: This paper demonstrates the characteristics presented by 7 to 13 year old asthmatic children under ambulatorial treatment in the Physiotherapy Clinic in the Universidade Norte do Paraná – UNOPAR, where the physiotherapeutic assessment consists on the following procedures: pulmonary function test, respiratory assessment and postural assessment. Aiming to verify the treatment evolution in these children, it was used a questionnaire on life quality. Results and discussion: The results were an improvement of the life quality, posture alterations, the beginning of sports practice, a decrease on asthmatic crisis frequency and the use of medicine.
