ABSTRACT

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is a disorder characterized by the clinical triad of hemolytic anemia, microangiopathy and acute renal failure. There are two clinical forms: the typical or classical, which arises after infectious diarrhea and atypically, rarely associated with infection by Streptococcus pneumoniae. In the latter, usually respiratory failure caused by pneumonia, the potential risk of bleeding, the precise use of blood products and renal complications that may arise, should be provided in order to create an effective therapy, which affects the child’s best outcome. This case is illustrative of this.
