ABSTRACT

The professional role of nursing has evolved over two or forms of thought, one traditional and one modern, from the 50s there is a significant body of opinion, respect fully the philosophy of the profession and seeks to give nursing an identity within the health professions. We believe that the problem of professional identity includes an interface between members of the discipline, enabling them to act responsibly and fitness in society. It is important to define different concepts within nursing that lead us to understand why the problem of professional identity, which is submitted to the reader take into account the following aspects to take a holistic view. Concept of practice nursing as a social practice, the economic aspect, the political aspect, nursing as a profession, a field of knowledge and the problems faced by the profession.
