ABSTRACT

Leonardo da Vinci was an extraordinary artist and a great scientist, painter, sculptor, musician and architect. He worked on several areas of human knowledge such as palaeontology, engineering, zoology, botanic and geology amongst others. His anatomical drawings of the eye, the cranial nerves and the orbit as well as some physiological concepts of the eye, comparative anatomy of the eyes several animals and some studies on optics are presented in this work. Leonardo’s philosophical concepts about the eye and the visual function are presented, which are of an amazing beauty: the eyes window to the soul…
