ABSTRACT

Objective. The objective of this paper was to know the frequency and the type of neck masses in children treated in the hospital. Material and methods. The clinical records of 85 children with neck masses treated in 16 years in a general hospital were review. All of them required surgical treatment and they have histopathologic confirmation. Results. Forty seven patients were male and 38 female. In 93.8% of them there was an agreement among the clinical and the histopathologic diagnosis. Forty eight of the masses were congenital, 27 were inflammatory and 10 were neoplasms. The surgical resection was carried out in all. Conclusion. The etiology of the neck masses found in this study is similar to that reported in the literature.
