ABSTRACT

Helicobacter pylori, is a germ which affects the gastric mucosa, it colonizes 50% of the world's population; in Mexico Helicobacter pylori infects 64% of individuals. Helicobacter pylori is a main cause of chronic gastritis and it is strongly associated with the development of peptic ulcer and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). Helicobacter pylori is also involved in the genesis of gastric cancer. The diagnostic methods for Helicobacter pylori can be invasive and not invasive, with high sensitivity and specificity. The treatment includes two antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor, with eradication rates of 95%.
