ABSTRACT

Backgrounds: in 2005, in Mexico young people existed 21,061,144 between 10 and 19 years of age, according to Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática (INEGI), who have demands and necessities that imply actions in health in different points of view.
Objective: we investigated their sexual behaviour and the possible actions in the last years in order to help them.
Material and methods: a search of surveys was made in Internet related to activities and sexual practices of our country and the world population published between 2000 and 2006, demographic information was obtained by INEGI and Consejo Nacional de Población (CONAPO).
Results: in Mexico, the National Survey of Health and Nutrition 2006 (ENSANUT) revealed that 14,4% of the adolescents had sexual relations, 29% did not use a method of contraception with a rate of pregnancy of 79 by every 1,000 in the group of 12 to 19 years. The relation divorce-marriages in 2005 was of 11,8 divorces by each 100 marriages. The rate of fecundity in adolescents fluctuate between 74 and 153 by each 1,000 women of 15 to 19 years of age, an estimation indicated that 1 of each 5 pregnancies was not planned.
Discussion: the adolescents require attention in reproductive health, for that reason we suggest to improve strategies of education in sexual health and to reinforce the policies of prevention of pregnancies non wished and high risk.
