Delirium, cardiac surgery, elderly patient.

ABSTRACT

The delirium is perhaps one of the most frequent forms of presentation of acute illness in the elderly patient and the complications observed in the postoperative cardiac surgery and during the course of their hospitalization. It is a disease in itself but a syndrome characterized by alterations in consciousness, attention and perception, accompanied by a change in cognitive function that develops acutely, fluctuates throughout the day and not attributable to a demented state.
