ABSTRACT
Introduction: Despite several technical modifications introduced to full fundoplications, the dysphagia continues as the most important cause of postoperative discomfort. The surgical technique, preoperative motility of the esophagus and surgical experience of the surgeon are the most significant factors associated with the postoperative dysphagia.
Methods: A prospective randomized clinical trial was carry out at the Minimal Access Surgery National Centre in Havana, Cuba, to compare the laparoscopic Nissen procedure with Nissen-Rossetti procedure, in patients with typical symptoms of ERGE and esophageal dysmotility.
Results: The assessment of postoperative dysphagia during the follow-up did no show any significant difference between both groups. The preoperative motility of esophagus was severely impaired in more than fifty percent of patients in both groups and although correlation between postoperative dysphagia and preoperative motility disorder was not statistically significant, the dysphagia was only persistent in patients with severe impaired peristalsis.
Conclusions: Postoperative dysphagia did not correlate with preoperative dysmotility in both group of treatment.
