ABSTRACT

Appropriate inventory levels are the key to effective inventory management. The inventory level in a blood bank Hill depend upon the type of Centre, the hospitals that it serves, or whether it is part of a national or independent blood service. From many years ago, techniques of management science and mathematical inventory theory are applied to construct a model for management strategies. For inventory management it should take into account the need to balance the requirement to meet demand from hospitals, against the age at issue and wastage. Other factors such as potential national crisis may also influence stock holding. This ensures that if any Centre has an excess numbers of blood units that are older, the potential use of them by moving to other Centres should be evaluated.
