ABSTRACT
Tracheal segments cryopreservation: Effect of freezing time on the structural integrity of cartilage. Pathological long tracheal segments (› 6 cm) remain an unsolved medical issue, since long lesions are not amenable to perform an end to end anastomosis. Such pathologies include tumors, post-intubation stenosis, malacias, tracheoesophagic fistulae and many others. There are many research groups that are working to solve this challenge, focused on tracheal cryopreservation or tissue-engineered tracheal transplant. In this work, we study the histological changes on the trachea tissue that result from different cryopreservation time, in order to obtain information that could let us perform tracheal transplantation in the near future.
