ABSTRACT
The glass ionomer cement was developed in 1969 and introduced to the dental profession in 1972. The early versions had several undesirable characteristics that made this cement not a very popular one in it´s early years. Considerable research has been carried out over the last 20 years and the dental profession has benefited. With an improved physical properties and better handling characteristics of the material.
