ABSTRACT

A characteristic finding of the diabetes mellitus is the abnormal elevation of the sanguineous glucose levels. Among the methods to know glucemia approximated form in capillary blood is the system of reactive strips and glucometer is found. The levels of glucemia gingival and digital with glucometer Elite Ascencia de Bayer in patients with periodontal disease of the clinics of Endoperiodontology and Iztacala were compared, to determine if it is possible to use this method as a monitoring system and detection of the glucose levels. 78 subjects of both genders and different ages were studied, with prevalence of diabetes of 20%. The test of T did not indicate difference between the measurements. It is possible to concluded that the measurements of glucemia gingival with glucometer can be an auxiliary method for the monitoring and detection of alterations of glucemia.
